Dryden Baseball wins over Marathon

Dryden improved to 4-2 in the IAC and 4-5 overall with a 9-8 win over host Marathon.  John Whitmore picked up his first win of the year as he went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (0 earned), on 4 hits, while striking out 6.  For Marathon, Dan Lincoln got the loss.  Dryden got on the board in the top of the first as Bruno Bugliosi doubled with one out.  Bugliosi would steal third and score on Derek Wilson's sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.  Dryden would add 2 more runs in the top of the second as Alan Davis singled to lead off the inning.  Davis would steal second base an score on Brandon Gold's 2-out RBI single to make it 2-0.  Gold would come around to score on Drew Wojcinski's RBI single to make it 3-0.  Dryden would add 2 more runs in the top of the third as Brian Colbert was hit-by-pitch with one out.  Colbert would advance to third on Alan Davis' single.  Davis would then steal second on a defensive indifference.  Justen Geddes followed with a 2-RBI single to make it 5-0.  Dryden would extend the lead to 9-0 in the top of the fourth as Drew Wojcinski walked with one out.  Wojcinski would steal second base.  Bruno Bugliosi would reach on an error allowing Wojcinski to advance to third.  Bugliosi would move to second on a defensive indifference.  Derek Wilson would follow with a fielder's choice RBI scoring Wojcinski to make it 6-0.  Brian Colbert would then follow with a 2-RBI double to make it 8-0.  Colbert would later score on a throwing error to make it 9-0.  Marathon would score two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth as Andrew Gillette and Kyle Young scored after reaching on errors.  Marathon would score unearned runs in the fifth and sixth inning to make it 9-4.  Marathon would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh, 1 earned, as Kody Barry reached on an error with one out.  Barry would move to second on Andrew Gillette's single.  After a strikeout recorded the second out, Barry stole third.  Gillette would steal second, and Tyler Hollerer reached on a walk to load the bases.  Ryan Tillotson's RBI single to left scored 2 to make it 9-6.  Hollerer would advance to third.  Jacob Doran would reach on an error allowing Hollerer and Tillotson to score to make it 9-8.  Andrew Doane would ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.  "We struggled defesively today.  We were fortunate to have the cushion we had."  Dryden is at Moravia tomorrow.
