Dryden Senior Ryan Whitaker shot 74 and finished in third place at the prestigious Douglas Memorial Tournament at Corning Country Club Sunday.

The select field boasted 72 of the state’s top high school golfers, including former and current state champions and most of the top players in section IV.

Dryden junior Jonathan Becker was also invited and shot a respectable 86.

Whitaker, Becker and the rest of the Dryden Purple Lions Varsity Golf team have a busy week ahead of them as they try to remain undefeated for the 2013 season. Currently 11-0 and alone in first place, Dryden will play 5 matches over the next 7 days. None is bigger than Friday’s match against defending IAC North champions, the Trumansburg BlueRaiders. Dryden was able to beat Trumansburg last week at DrydenLake Golf Course, but since then Tburg has played extremely well and will be very tough to beat on their home course.
