The Dryden baseball team improved to 7-5 overall on Wednesday with a
5-2 defeat of visiting Marathon in Interscholastic Athletic Conference
play.
Alan Davis took a no-hitter into the
seventh inning before settling for a complete-game two hitter with 14
strikeouts and just two walks for the Purple Lions (7-2 IAC). Jacob
Doran took the loss for Marathon.
The
Purple Lions grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Noah Welgoss led
off with a single, stole second and scored on Derek Wilson’s single.
Wilson then stole second and scored on a double by Brian Colbert, who
came around to score on an RBI single from Alan Davis.
The Lions added a run in the third, on Brian Colbert’s solo homer, and another in the fourth in support of Davis.
“Alan
threw the ball well tonight,” Dryden coach Kim Brown said. “The 14
strikeouts are impressive, but only allowing two walks was just as
impressive. If Alan can limit his walks, he has a chance to be
successful for us every time he takes the mound.”
