From the Coach - Dryden Baseball over Marathon

Dryden improved to 7-5 overall and 7-2 in IAC play as they defeated visiting Marathon 5-2.  Alan Davis picked up the win, his second on the year.  For Marathon, Jacob Doran picked up the loss.  Dryden took an early lead in the bottom of the first as Noah Welgoss led off the game with a single up the middle.  Welgoss would steal second base.  After a strikeout, Derek Wilson followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0 as Welgoss scored.  Wilson would steal second base and score on Brian Colbert's RBI double to left-center to make it 2-0.  Colbert would then score on Alan Davis' RBI single to left to make it 3-0.  Dryden would add another run in the bottom of the third as Brian Colbert hit a solo homerun to deep left-center to make it 4-0.  Dryden would add another run in the bottom of the fourth as Bruno Bugliosi reached on an error with one out.  The error allowing Bugliosi to end up on third base after the play.  Bugliosi would score on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.  Alan Davis was the story of the game.  Davis went 6 innings without allowing a hit, while also striking out 14.  Marathon was without 3 senior starters due to a field trip.  "Alan threw the ball well tonight.  The 14 strikeouts are impressive, but only allowing two walks was just as impressive.  If Alan can limit his walks, he has a chance to be successful for us every time he takes the mound."  Davis would be pulled after 6 innings without allowing a hit because his pitch count had reached 94.  Marathon would score two runs in the bottom of the seventh as Tyler Hoellerer reached on a bunt single, the first marathon hit of the game, to lead off the inning.  Isaiah Brooks would follow with a single, allowing Hoellerer to advance to third.  An attempted caught stealing allowed Hoellerer to score to make it 5-1.  Brooks would come around to score on an error to make it 5-2.  Bugliosi would strikeout the side in the seventh to finish the game.  Dryden hosts Groton tomorrow.
