Varsity Football vs. Watkins Glen

From the Coach -

Varsity Football vs. Watkins Glen
9/19/14

Watkins Glen-24, Dryden-17. The story of the game comes down to two
things- penalties and a dominating performance by the Watkins Glen offense.
First quarter was scoreless but things picked up in the 2nd quarter.
Dryden opened the scoring with a 35 yard field goal by sophomore
Gavin Marsh. Watkins scored next to make the score 8-3 then the Lions
bounced back with a 1 yard run by Duran Joyce. The half ended 11-8 in
favor of Dryden. Another Watkins Glen drive put the Senecas up 16-11.
Noah Welgoss then ran in from the 3 to put the Lions back on top,
17-16...then came the fireworks of a 4th quarter filled with penalties,
an ejection of a Watkins player. Dryden scored late in the game but the
touchdown was called back by a penalty. This would have iced the game
for the Lions. Instead, the WG offense took control and drove the ball
70 yards for the go ahead score. With the score at 24-17...the Lions
went on an amazing 60 yard drive that ended with the clock running out.
Great game by both teams.
Noah Welgoss led the Lions rushing attack with 8 carries for 50 yards
Stu Stahlman had 11 carries for 41 yards.
Noah Welgoss had 145 yards passing in 10 completions
Matt McHerron had 8 catches for 176 yards
Chris Simonett and Tristan Dewey both had fumble recoveries
Tristan Dewey, Connor OBrien and Stu Stahlman shared the lead in tackles
with  9.
