Freshman Evan Whittaker cruised to victory Tuesday in an Interscholastic Athletic Conference cross country multi-team meet hosted by Groton, winning the boys' race by more than a minute.
On the girls' side, Southern Cayuga senior Bethany Murphy was the individual winner. The meet was held at Stonehedges Golf Course.
Whittaker led Trumansburg to the team victory in the seven-school event, the Blue Raiders placing four runners in the top 10 and finishing with 26 points. Dryden was second (38), followed by Southern Cayuga (91), Groton (109), Marathon (113) and Moravia (125). Whitney Point was incomplete.
Whittaker — who last year set the modified course record at Groton — crossed the line in 17 minutes, 11 seconds, well ahead of Blue Raiders junior Ben Pesco (18:23) and Dryden junior Tor Wildenstein (18:28).
Murphy finished the girls' race in 21:28, ahead of Dryden junior Abbey Yatsko (21:41) and Trumansburg junior Megan McIntyre (22:14). Trumansburg edged Groton in the team race, 28-29; all other teams ran incomplete.
