Ithaca Journal

A 14-9 scoring edge in the third quarter lifted the Whitney Point boys basketball team to a 62-56 victory over host Dryden Tuesday night in Interscholastic Athletic Conference action.
The win lifted the Eagles to 3-0 in the IAC, 3-1 overall; the Purple Lions dipped to 1-2, 1-2.
Both teams scored 17 in the first quarter and 14 in the second to head into the locker room tied at 31. Zach Marsh did most of the damage for the winners, scoring 33 points, inclulding three 3-pointers and several key free throws down the stretch after Dryden had cut the deficit to four in the closing minutes.
“The Marsh kid is hands down the best player in this league,” Dryden coach Kim Brown said. “He is a tough guard for us.”
Dryden was led by sophomore Ali Abel-Ferretti who posted his 2nd double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. The Lions also got 10 points apiece from sophomore Matt McHerron and freshman Trevor Gardner (6 rebounds).
