Abel-Ferretti scores 28 to lead Dryden to boys basketball win over T-burg

Sophomore Ali Abel-Ferretti scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Dryden boys basketball team to a 64-38 victory over host Trumansburg on Monday in Interscholastic Athletic Conference play.

The game was played Monday night due to a conflict with a school concert Tuesday night at Trumansburg.

Abel-Ferretti did all of his damage on the inside, converting 13 of 15 shots from the field, and also grabbed five rebounds. Classmate Matt McHerron added eight points and six boards.

Senior Cam Lueder paced the Blue Raiders (1-3) with eight points.

The score was tied at 15 after one quarter, but the Purple Lions outscored T-burg 15-6 in the second quarter, then held the home team scoreless over the first 5½ minutes of the third en route to a 19-7 scoring edge in the period.

“We switched to a man-to-man defense in the second quarter, and that proved to be very beneficial,” Dryden coach Kim Brown said. “We were able to create turnovers and force Trumansburg into difficult looks.

“Everyone who saw the floor in the third quarter did an outstanding job defensively,” he said.

Dryden hosts Lansing on Friday, while Trumansburg travels to Whitney Point.
