From the Coach

Last night the dryden boys varsity basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 64-38 win over host trumansburg. Sophomore Ali Abel-Ferretti led the way for dryden with 28 points on 13-15 from the field. Abel-Ferretti also added 5 rebounds. Dryden also got 8 points and 6 rebounds from sophomore Matt McHerron, while sophomore Stu Stahlman, junior Noah Welgoss, and senior Ross Cole added 6 points each. Trumansburg was led by Cam Lueder who finished with 8 points. Dryden and Trumansburg were deadlocked at 15 after the first quarter. "I didn't think our press was as aggressive as it should have been, allowing Trumansburg some easy looks." Abel-Ferretti had 9 points in the quarter. Dryden would outscore Trumansburg 15-6 in the second quarter. Abel-Ferretti would not be a factor in the second quarter as he picked up his second foul late in the first quarter. Noah Welgoss led Dryden with 5 points in the quarter. "We switched to a man-to-man defense in the second quarter, and that proved to be very beneficial. We were able to create turnovers and force Trumansburg into difficult looks." Leading 30-21 at the half, Dryden would hold Trumansburg scoreless for over 5 minutes to begin the third quarter. Trumansburg's first field goal make came with 2:34 left in the quarter. Meanwhile, Dryden had scored 15 straight points. "We always discuss winning the third quarter in the locker room. "Everyone who saw the floor in the third quarter did an outstanding job defensively. Our defense was good. We were able to apply ball-pressure, deny passing lanes, and play good helpside defense. I thought Matt was outstanding on both ends tonight. His helpside defense kept Trumansburg out of the paint on several ocassions." Abel-Ferretti had 8 points in the third quarter and 9 in the fourth quarter. "Ali did a great job of finishing tonight. His post moves were quicker, and Trevor Gardner's dribble penetration freed Ali up for easy opportunities." "Stu Stahlman gave us great minutes tonight. He was active on both ends of the floor and made two great passes for easy finishes on the break." Dryden hosts Lansing Friday. Dryden JV's fell to 2-3 on the year with a 49-26 loss
