Late basket propels SV past Dryden



Susquehanna Valley’s Shaynne Rodriguez converted a crucial three-point play to send the host Sabers to a 65-64 victory over Dryden in a Section 4 Class B boys basketball quarterfinal Tuesday in Conklin.
Down 64-62, Rodriguez made a layup off an offensive rebound and hit the subsequent free throw to give SV the lead with 12 seconds left. Justin Caroway made a steal on Dryden’s next possesion to seal the game.
Dave Matthews led all scorers with 24 points and Jason Fiorentino finished with 16 including a 4 of 4 performance from the free throw stripe in the final quarter when they outscored the visitors 22-12. Rodriguez tallied 9 and Caleb Reynods added 8.
Ali Abel-Ferretti and Trevor Gardner each scored 20 points to pace Dryden.
Third-seeded Susquehanna Valley (12-7)travels to second-seeded Oneonta for a semifinal contest at 7 Friday.
