DRYDEN — Ali Abell-Ferretti, a 6-6
sophomore center, scored 20 points and hauled down 15 rebounds to lead
Dryden to a 58-47 win over Waverly here Friday night in IAC boys
basketball crossover action.
"He controlled the entire game
tonight," said Waverly coach Lou Judson. "When we doubled-down on him,
he would kick it out and one of their role players would hit a
3-pointer.
"He really hurt us on the offensive boards and he got us into some major foul trouble in the first half," he said.
"(Dryden)
played well," added Judson. "And, it's a tough place to play. Our kids
have never played here, so it was a good experience for them."
With
the scored tied at 10-10 after the first quarter, Dryden point guard
Noah Wellgoss knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to spark an 18-12
second-quarter spurt that gave the Purple Lions a 28-22 lead at the
intermission.
Abell-Ferretti took over in the third quarter with
11 points, including an 8-for-9 performance from the free-throw line, as
Dryden extended its lead to 46-33 entering the final eight minutes.
Wellgoss, add 15 points and seven assist in the win for Dryden.
Senior
Dylan Perry lead Waverly with 23 points, four steals and two assists,
while Tim Sutton scored seven points, Peyton MIller had five points and
five boards and Hunter Bodine chipped in with five points. Ryan
McFarland scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds in the loss.
Waverly, now 9-8, will wrap up the regular season Monday at Chenango Forks in a varsity-only contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
