The
JV Girls Basketball Team improved their record to 12-2 on the year with a win
over a good Lansing basketball team 38-26. Lansing came out and scored 5 points
in the first 2 minutes. I thought we could mix things up with our pressure, but
Lansing was able to get through it and find some easy buckets. We went with a
man defense 90 percent of the game. I thought with our aggressiveness and
quickness we would make it difficult on them. The one thing that I wanted the
girls to get in their mind defensively is being active and helping when needed.
It proved to be the right move throughout the game. The only way I thought
Lansing would win is to out execute us. The girls stayed true to what we have
been preaching from day 1 is basic basketball fundamentals. It took us a entire
half to get warmed-up offensively, but once we got going we turned it into a
classic game. The girls knew how much was on the line. They knew that a loss
would make it difficult to play in a championship game slated at the end of the
season. The girls not only proved that they belong in that game, but played
with heart and desire. They don't like the feeling trailing in a ball game, but
understood that their was a lot of game to be played. Dryden would outscore
Lansing in the second half 28-11. We knew in order to win this game we were
going to have to make some shots from the outside. One of our big shots came
from Keri Daley. She converted on a three point shot with a little English on
the ball. That was definitely the turning point for us. It pumped the girls up
and we were able to get things rolling our way. We did simple things that
helped us out like boxing out, winning the boards and making good decisions on
offense. This is game the girls will always remember, beating Lansing because we
know they have a great program.
