High School Roundup: Bennett scores 6 more goals to lead Dryden girls past Groton in soccer
Sophomore is within 5 of single-season school record
Sophomore Taylor Bennett continued her torrid scoring spree Tuesday, scoring
six goals and assisting on the other as Dryden defeated visiting Groton, 7-1,
in Interscholastic Athletic Conference play.
Dryden (7-1) also got a goal from Amy Gardner, while Keri Daley, Abigail
Barr and Victoria Leyburn had assists. Alissa Patte had four saves for the
winners, who outshot the Indians, 29-6, and took all six of the game’s corners.
Bennett, an all-state forward last season who this month eclipsed the
100-goal mark, has 29 goals through eight games. Last year, she scored 33 goals
to fall one shy of the school single-season record, set by her older sister,
Leighann, in 2010.
Chloe Chalker scored in the first half for Groton, assisted by Sidney
Reeves. The Indians trailed at the break, 3-1.
Dryden’s lone loss this year was a 5-0 shutout at the hands of Syracuse-area
power Marcellus, which lost for the first time this season Tuesday to
undefeated Skaneateles, 1-0.
The Purple Lions travel to unbeaten rival Lansing on Thursday for a 7 p.m.
match.
