From the Coach - JV Girls Basketball vs.Moravia 1/16

The JV girls dropped another game last night against a very tough Moravia squad 23-46. The girls overall record is now 7-4. We had a very sloppy first quarter, trailing by 12 going into the second. We prepared for their press and knew exactly how they positioned themselves, but mentally did not execute. I took us a full quarter to settle down and start placing the ball in the spots where we needed to go when they pressed us. The first quarter really hurt us and we never recovered from it. We did come out in the second half and played a much better third quarter. We were able to gets some quick steals and score which allowed us to set up our press. We did a really nice job staying with our zone press causing Moravia to make some poor decisions. Offensively we struggled to find points. The looks were there, but we just could not captalize. Too many turnovers and not winning the rebound battle inside will usually result in a long night of basketball. I give credit to our girls because they never gave up. They continued to work hard and did there best to climb back into the game. They were able to cut the deficit to 9 late in the third quarter. Moravia would pull away early in the fourth with the lack of production on the offensive side for us. We have been averaging around 20 pts the last four games offensively and that will not win you alot of ball games. The girls play again next Friday against a much improved Marathon team.
