From the Coach - JV Girls Basketball vs. Lansing 1/11

From DCS Website:
The girls lost a hard fought battle 28-23 Friday night against Lansing. We new it was going to be a physical game with both teams very aggressive on the defensive side. We came out and played a decent first quarter, but had a tough time against their zone in the second quarter. They did a nice job shutting down our big girls in the paint. We started forcing the ball which hurt us get anything going offensively. The score was 9-18 going into half-time. I told the girls we have been in this position before that there is alot of basketball left. We made some changes on the offensive side to counter against there defense taking away the paint. We came out and played an excellent third quarter outscoring them 10-2. We were seeing the zone much better and understanding where the ball had to go. We were able to take a three point lead with around 3:00 left in the game with a fast break steal by Bailey Rose. Lansing was able to hit a big three towards the end where the ball circled around the rim three times. Lansing was able to follow up with another offensive possession extended their lead by two. We had to start fouling late to give ourselves a chance at the end with 1:05 left in the game. Lansing was able to extend their lead to 3. With 1 minute left in the game we had a opportunity with a three point shot, but missed. We were able to make another stop and give ourselves another look, but were not able to convert. The girls played their hearts out in the second half and I'm very proud of the way we handle ourselves. They never got down on each other. The girls record is know 7-3. Lill Lynch led the team with 8pts and several block while Taylor Bennett added 6pts.
