The
JV Girls improved their record to 6-2 with a win against Union Springs.
The girls are riding a 5 game winning steak and hope to continue their
steak against Groton Tuesday night. We had a great 1st half against
Union Springs Friday night, scoring 16pts in the first quarter. Our
press defense slowed down their ability to move the ball up the floor,
allowing us to create turn-overs. Turn-overs are great defensively and
when you can create
points of turn-overs its a plus. We were able create points off
turn-overs in the first half which helped us set up our press defense.
The girls took a 27-6 lead at half-time. I told the girls that they
needed to come up with the same intensity that they had in the first
half, but it wasn't all too easy for them in the second half. I credit
Union Springs defense in the second half. They came out with
aggressiveness which caused us to turn the ball over. We needed to be
patient against their zone, but instead rushed our shots and forced the
ball into spots that were not open. Offensively we did not click in the
second half, but the girls stayed together never giving up on each
other. Our defense has been strong all year which helped us through the
game in the second half winning 33-20.
