IAC GIRLS SOCCER: STATE-RANKED DRYDEN RALLIES TO EDGE WAVERLY, 2-1

DRYDEN — State-ranked Dryden rallied with a pair of second-half goals to edge Waverly, 2-1, here Thursday afternoon in crossover IAC girls soccer action.

Dryden, ranked second in Class B, improves to 12-0 on season, while Waverly falls to 9-4.

"I was very pleased with the team's performance," said Waverly coach Brian Myers.  "What an excellent game to watch.

"I really thought the game could have gone either way as both teams just laid it all out on the field.

"It's a great confidence-builder for the girls as we get closer to sectional play," added Myers. "To be able to compete at that level,  I couldn't be more proud of the girls."

After a scoreless first half, freshman Elle Nittinger scored 27 seconds into the second half off a feed from Emiley Myers to give Waverly a 1-0 lead.

Just 56 seconds later, Dryden's Keri Daley scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.

With 23:27 remaining in the contest, Taylor Bennett scored an unassisted goal to give the Lady Purple Lions a 2-1 lead.

Waverly outshot Dryden, 6-5, while the Lady Lions had a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.

Zoe Mennig recorded three saves in net for the Lady Wolverines.

Waverly closes out the regular season Tuesday at Whitney Point.
