Dryden boys improve to 4-1 in IAC with hoops victory

Ithaca Journal

Junior Ali Abel-Ferretti scored 23 points to lead Dryden to an 81-58 victory over Groton in Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys’ basketball on Tuesday night in Dryden.
The 6-foot-6 Abel-Ferretti also grabbed seven rebounds and was one of four players in double-figures for the Purple Lions (5-3 overall, 4-1 IAC). Trevor Gardner added 14 points, while Matt McHerron and Noah Welgoss added 10 apiece.
Groton (2-4, 1-2) had just four players score, and they all hit double-figures, led by Canaan Bowie’s 18 points.
The score was tied at 13 after one quarter, but Dryden’s switch from a zone press to a man-to-man press paid dividends, according to Coach Kim Brown. The hosts outscored Groton, 25-12, in the second quarter and 68-45 after the first eight minutes.
Dryden was scheduled to visit Windsor on Wednesday for a non-league game.
