From the Coach: Dryden Boys Basketball Now 8-5 with Newark Valley Win

From the Coach:
1/24 VBBB:  Dryden improved to 8-5 overall, and 6-5 in IAC play with a 58-46 win over host Newark Valley.  Dryden was led by sophomore Ali Abel-Ferretti who finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Dryden also got 14 points from Trevor Gardner.  Ross Cole chipped in with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.  Newark Valley was led by Martin, who had 24 points.

Dryden took an early 19-9 lead after the first quarter.  Abel-Ferretti and Gardner with 6 each in the quarter.  "I thought we settled for too many shots from deep in the quarter.  Though we did make three, we had opportunities to penetrate gaps in their zone, creating higher percetage shots."  Dryden would lead 33-20 at half.  Abel-Ferretti with 7 points in the second quarter.  "We talked about extending the lead at half, however we were not able to do it to the extent we had discussed."

Dryden would outscore Newark Valley 16-14 in the third quarter to take a 49-34 lead into the final quarter.  "We would get up 15, then Newark Valley would cut the lead to ten.  We have to get better in late-game situations."

"I can't say enough about the play of Matt McHerron and Ross Cole.  Matt plays with maximum energy every possession.  The box score does not indicate his value to our team.  Ross put together quite a stat line tonight.  He does so many things well for us."  Dryden is at Lansing next Friday.  Dryden JV's lost to Newark Valley 59-38.  Freshman Dakota Brunner led Dryden with 12 points.

From the Coach - Girls JV Basketball over Trumansburg

FROM THE COACH

1/24 JVGBB:  The girls played an exceptionally solid game against T-Burg Friday night picking up another road win 41-25. Veronica Cator Szymanski led the charge with 14 pts and Amy Gardner contributed with 8 pts. We are doing a much better against teams zone defense. We are a team that likes to get points in transition, but have done a much better job with a half court set zone offenses. The girls shooting has improved and their are a lot of looks for us out there. The girls also secured another road with Saturday afternoon against Newark Valley 39-33 improving their record to 10-2. We had the best first quarter of the season outscoring our opponent 16-4. They came out with a man defense and that is something we have not yet seen much all year. The girls attacked it without challenge and were able to rack up points. We struggled to make passes in the paint in the second quarter and missed some easy shots. We were able to get our bench some playing time which is always nice. Keri Daly had a great game leading the girls with 13 pts and Lindsey Goodenough came through with 11 pts. The girls are playing good basketball and are a lot of fun to watch.
