TRUMANSBURG — Dryden gave undefeated Trumansburg all
it could handle on Thursday before the defending sectional champion
Blue Raiders finally prevailed in five sets in an Interscholastic
Athletic Conference match.
“The match was
phenomenal,” T-burg coach Angela McLennan said. “Dryden came ready to
play and we were able to step up and play a competitive high school
volleyball match.”
The Purple Lions (2-2) won the first set, 26-24, before the Raiders (5-0) won the next two, 25-23 and 25-15.
After the Lions forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-21 win in Game 4, Trumansburg took the match with a 25-20 win.
“I
was so proud of how my team stayed focused and kept their composure,”
McLennan said. “All five sets were up and down score changes. I give a
lot of credit to Dryden for their outstanding hustle on every single
play they made.”
Chloe
Mount had a match-high 13 kills for Trumansburg, while Hayley Sherwood
dished out 30 assists and Meredith Kirk anchored the defense with 10
digs.
Kate Holland had five aces and Thea Simonet added four for Dryden, which got six digs from Marissa Ramos.
The Blue Raiders travel to Southern Cayuga on Tuesday; Dryden takes part in the Tioga Tournament this weekend.
