The
Dryden JV Girls basketball improved their record to 4-0 with a 32-10 win over
Groton. It was our best win of the year, but a win is a win. Overall, the girls
struggled in the first half to get into a rhythm offensively. We struggled to
make the extra pass and missed a lot of uncontested points in the paint. I
thought our defense played better in the second half. We committed too many
foolish fouls in the first looking very sluggish. The girls did an exceptional
job attacking the basket and getting to the line. We were 63% from the line
which is much improved from the previous contests. Lindsey Goodenough led the
team with 10 pts and Keri Daley added 9.

From the Coach - Varsity Boys Basketball vs. Whitney Point.
VBB 12/10 - Last night Dryden
fell to 1-2 on the season with a 62-56 home loss to Whitney Point. Dryden was led by sophomore Ali Abel-Ferretti
who posted his 2nd double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Dryden also got 10 points a piece from sophomore
Matt McHerron and freshman Trevor Gardner.
Gardner added 6 rebounds, while McHerron had 4. Whitney Point was led by junior Zack Marsh
who had 33 points. Dryden and Whitney
Point exchanged blows in the first quarter which would end deadlocked at 17. Abel-Ferretti and Marsh each with 6 in the
quarter. Both teams would still be
deadlocked at 31 after two quarters of play.
Marsh and Abel-Ferretti each had 9 points in the quarter. Whitney Point would outscore Dryden 14-9 in
the third quarter to take a 3 point lead.
Dryden would cut the lead to four late in the fourth quarter. Trevor Gardner would get an open look at the
top of the key, but his 3-point attempt did not connect. Marsh would sink free throws to finish the
game. "I thought we played rather
well tonight. We need to do a better job
of finishing opportunities in the paint.
" "The Marsh kid is
hands down the best player in this league.
He is a tough guard for us."

Bennett, Shea McCartney named first-team all-state in girls soccer
Ithaca Journal
ITHACA — Six girls soccer players from the Ithaca area, including
three from Lansing, have been named to the New York State Sportswriters and
Coaches Organization for Girls Sports all-state teams. The organization
announced its all-state selections today.
Three area players were first-team
selections — sophomore striker Taylor Bennett from Dryden in Class B, and
junior striker Shea McCartney and senior midfielder Elena Parkins from Section
4 champion Lansing in Class C.
Other all-state selections, all from
Class C, included junior defender Maura McCartney from Lansing (second team),
senior midfielder Lisa Nelson from Spencer-Van Etten (fourth team) and freshman
midfielder Madeline Boerman from Lansing (fifth team).
Bennett scored a school-record 43
goals this season in leading the Purple Lions to a 12-4 record and a berth in
the Section 4 Class B quarterfinals. Bennett scored twice in the quarterfinal
against Chenango Forks, which ended in a 3-3 tie, with CF advancing on penalty
kicks.
Shea McCartney, a fifth-team
all-state selection last year, led the Bobcats to a No. 1 state ranking during
the season and a berth in the state semifinals, where they lost to eventual
state runner-up Haldane. McCartney scored seven goals in Lansing’s three
sectional victories, including twice in the 5-0 shutout of Unatego in the title
game.
Perkins, second-team pick Maura
McCartney and fifth-teamer Boerman were key performers at both ends of the
field for second-year Coach Eric Stickel’s Lansing squad, which outscored its
opponents this season, 87-6. Maura McCartney scored in Lansing’s 2-0 defeat of
Beaver River in the state quarterfinals at Norwich.
S-VE’s Nelson was named most
valuable player of the Interscholastic Athletic Conference South Small
Division, and led the Panthers to a No. 14 state ranking and a berth in the
Section 4 Class C semifinals, where they lost to Lansing, 2-1. The Bobcats
trailed with 16 minutes to play before rallying to eliminate the Panthers, who
were co-champions of the IAC Small Schools along with Marathon.
