ITHACA — A pair of Interscholastic Athletic Conference
rivals meet Friday night when Dryden travels to Lansing in a key Section 4
Division IV matchup at Sobus Field.
The Purple Lions (3-1 overall, 0-0 Division IV) are coming off a 47-12 home
defeat of Greene last Friday night, led by running back Stuart Stahlman (11
carries-147 yards, 2 touchdowns) and quarterback Alan Davis (7-for-14, 202
yards, 2 touchdowns). Stahlman — a 6-foot-3, 205-pound sophomore — scored on
runs of 1 and 46 yards, and had two receptions for 79 yards as well as a
2-point conversion catch early in the second quarter.
Davis, a 6-2 senior who also plays defensive end, had scoring tosses of 26
yards to Branden Decker and 39 yards to Matthew McHerron. He also ran for two
scores as the Purple Lions — honorable mention in this week’s Class C state
rankings — bounced back from a 49-12 loss in week 3 to defending Section 4
champion Chenango Forks. Dryden opened the season with victories over Oxford
(32-14) and Moravia (34-12).
Lansing’s most recent loss also came against Chenango Forks, a 28-0 home
blanking last weekend. The Bobcats (2-2, 1-0 Division IV), winners of two in a
row before last weekend, were outgained 342-87. The Bobcats opened with an
eight-point loss to Groton but followed with wins over Chenango Valley (22-21)
and Trumansburg (54-20).
