Dryden Opens Up IAC Lead

Ithaca Times

On Friday night Dryden improved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in IAC North Division play with a 52-35 win at host Trumansburg, improving the basketball squad’s hold over the top spot in their division.

Bryan Norman led a balanced Dryden attack with 14 points.  Gage Ellis added 11, Kevin Winston had nine, and Bryant Stuttle and James Seeley each had 8.  For Tburg, Alec Bartischevich and Letty McFall each had 10 points.     The score was tied at 13 after the first quarter.  Norman had five points and Stuttle had four.     “We were a little sluggish to start, especially on the defensive glass,” said Dryden coach Kim Brown.  “We gave up rebounding position and let Trumansburg gets some easy opportunities.”     Dryden would outscore Tburg 15-7 in the second quarter to take a 28-20 lead into the locker room at the half.     “I thought our defense finally started to pick up in the second half,” said Brown. “We rotated well and were able to force Tburg into some tough shots.”     After allowing Trumansburg to score the first six points of the third quarter, Dryden would go on a 14-0 run to take a 42-26 lead into the fourth quarter. Dryden would outscore Tburg 10-9 in the fourth quarter to win 52-35. Tburg’s nine fourth-quarter points would all come from the free-throw line.  Trumansburg did not score a field goal in the final 13 minutes of the game.     “That’s a pretty telling stat,” said Brown. “We worked hard defensively and it showed. I thought Kevin Winston played extremely well tonight. He was outstanding defensively and he found his teammates several times for easy looks on the offensive end.”     Dryden JV’s won 58-24. Ross Cole led the way with 12 points. Dryden hosts Whitney Point Friday in a key IAC North contest. It is also the 4th annual white-out game.  All home fans are encouraged to dress in white.  JV tips at 6 pm.Box ScoreDryden                   13    15    14    10    52Trumansburg         13     7     6       9     35
