Bryan Arnold, Bryant Stuttle, Will Holt, George Booker and Liam Joyce were the standouts for our first outdoor meet this year. I was extremely happy with the way Bryan Arnold competed tonight. The boys will once again be strong in the jumps and sprints.

The girls had outstanding performances from Abbey Yatsko, Mackenzie Todd and Rachel Hutchinson. These girls are coming off of an amazing indoor season and are rolling to start this outdoor season.

VARSITY GOLF 4/8

Monday afternoon at Dryden Lake Golf Course, the Dryden Purple Lions Varsity Golf team got off to a great start in their first match of 2013, beating Whitney Point 209 to 269. Dryden was led by the strong play of junior Jonathan Becker who shot three over par 38 to edge Whitney Point senior Mitchell Edson by one shot for medalist honors. Becker’s round was highlighted by a perfectly struck tee shot on the third hole that stopped within inches of a hole-in-one and left him with an easy tap-in birdie. Dryden (1-0) hosts Lansing on Wednesday, while Whitney Point (0-1) visits Trumansburg.

Dryden tri-meet: The Purple Lions boys and girls both swept Whitney Point and Union Springs. The boys team defeated WP, 111-16, and beat Union Springs, 73-58. The girls beat WP, 110-29, and the Wolves, 100-40.
Bryan Arnold won three events for the Purple Lion boys, taking the 400 meters (54.5 seconds), the 200 (24.3) and the discus (96 feet, 7 inches). Will Holt won the 110-meter hurdles (16.2 seconds) and ran a leg on Dryden’s winning 4x100 relay, which won in 45.9 seconds.
On the girls side, Rachel Hutchinson won both the 400 (1:03.4) and the 800 (2:32.8) and ran legs on Dryden’s winning 4x800 and 4x400 relays. Hutchinson finished eighth in the 1,000 at the state indoor championships last month at Cornell. Abbey Yatsko won the 100 (12.7) and 200 (26.2), and anchored Dryden’s 4x400 relay. Mackenzie Todd won the 100 hurdles (17.3), and the long and triple jumps.

Johnson City boys lacrosse team beats Dryden

Johnson City scored six times in the second period and five more in the third to go on to defeat visiting Dryden 15-3 in a Section 4 Conference boys lacrosse match on Wednesday night.
Shane Majewski led a balanced Wildcat scoring attack with three goals and four assists. Nate Korutz added three goals and two assists, and Nate Krome and Nick Neferis had three goals and an assist each.
Jordan Zehr scored two goals and Joe DeLucia scored 1 for Dryden, which failed to score on eight man-up opportunities.  Ross Cole had 14 saves in his back up goalie debut.

VARSITY BOYS BASEBALL

Host Lansing defeated Dryden 12-3.  Sam Currie picked up the win for Lansing as he went 5 innings, allowing 0 hits while striking out 10.  Bruno Bugliosi picked up the loss for Dryden as he went 1.2 innings, allowing 8 runs, (4 earned) on 5 hits, while striking out 4.  Justen Geddes pitched the final 4.1, allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, while striking out 3.  Lansing would break out in the second inning as they would score 8 runs.  A lead-off walk and a hit-by-pitch would put runners on 1st and 2nd.  An Andrew Maul RBI single would score Troy Osterman to make it 1-0.  After a strikeout recorded the first out, Alex Purcell walked to load the bases.  Josh Todd would score on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.  Ellington Hopkins would walk to load the bases again.  Greg Lehr followed with a 2-RBI single to make it 4-0.  A critical error allowed 4 more unearned runs to score for Lansing.  Dryden would finally get on the board inh the top of the sixth against reliever Ellington Hopkins as Noah Welgoss walked with 1 out.  Bruno Bugliosi followed with a single to put runners on 1st and 2nd.  Derek Wilson would follow with a single to load the bases.  Brian Colbert would reach on an error, allowing Welgoss to score on the RBI to make it 10-1.  Alan Davis would follow with a fielder's choice, forcing Colbert at second, but allowing Bugliosi to score on the RBI to make it 10-2.  Dryden would add their third run in the seventh as John Whitmore led off the inning with an infield single.  Whitmore would steal second and score on a Noah Welgoss RBI single.  Dryden is off until the Cortland Tourney, April 6th.
