From the coach - Dryden JVGBB v Trumansburg

JV Girls Basketball vs. Trumansburg 2/5

The JV girls improved to 9-6 on the season with a win over Trumansburg 30-24. We did not play good basketball in the first half. The girls lacked intensity and the abilty to take care of the ball. I thought are defense was good in the first half, but it seemed like the girls enjoyed passing the ball to the other team. Too many turn-overs and the williness to be assertive attacking the basket really hurt us. In the second half we looked like a totally different basketball team. We started putting pressure on their guards which helped create some turn-overs. Offensively we were able to settle down and work the ball around and find some easy shots. The girls scored 28 of their 30 points in the second half. Lill Lynch led the team with 10pts and Taylor Bennet, Emily DeLucia and Bailey Rose each had 6pts. The girls wrap up their season away Friday against Union Springs.

Dryden place winners: Girls win the Class C/D meet and the boys placed 3rd. What a night, I am so pleased with the way the kids competed tonight. The girls know they are a talented group of individuals and they wanted to make a statement that they are one of the best teams that the Dryden Track Program has had. They did indeed, bringing home a 10th sectional title for the track program, (1st indoor title). We had a total of 16 personal best's on the night. The girls wanted to dominate the meet and they did, doubling up 2nd place Waverly 136 - 68. It was amazing watching the kids compete, we didn't have a single slip up. With only 9 boys competing I am very happy with a top 3 finish.

Varsity Boys Swimming vs. Chenango Valley 1/31

The Varsity boys swim team competed at Chenango Valley last night.  Marcus Converse lead the team with points earned while Connor Roberson continues to swim impressive times.  A special recognition to Matt Wimer for his 3rd place finish while swimming the individual medley for the first time this season  The boys swim against Lansing Monday in their last regular season meet.

JV/Varsity Boys Basketball vs Trumansburg 2/5

Last night Dryden improved to 11-5 overall and 11-4 in IAC play with a 72-40 win over visiting Trumansburg.  Dryden placed 4 players in double-figures as Gage Ellis, Bryan Norman and Bryant Stuttle each had 16 points.  Shawn Moore chipped in with 12.  Trumansburg was led by Zach Kenney who had 11 points.  Dryden got out to a 22-8 first quarter lead.  "We utilized a full-court press to get some easy baskets."  "Bryant and Gage were agrressive in the first quarter and finished close to the rim"  Stuttle with 8 in the first quarter and Ellis with 10.  Dryden would take a 34-15 lead into the locker room at half.  Dryden would outscore T'burg 17-7 in the third quarter and 21-18 in the fourth quarter.  Shawn Moore with all 12 of his points in the second half.  "Shawn got good looks in the first-half, however he was too deliberate when he shot the ball.  Before the start of the second-half, I told him to shoot at gamespeed."  Moore would go 3/5 from three-point range in the second-half after going 0-2 in the first-half.  Dryden JV's lost to Trumansburg 58-51.  Matt McHerron led Dryden with 13 points.  Dryden hosts Union Springs Friday, the final game of the regular-season.  JV tip is at 5:30 to accomodate senior recognition before the varsity game.

JV Girls Basketball vs. Whitney Point 2/1

The JV Girls improved to 8-6 on the season defeating Whitney Point in a close game 30-28. It was a tight game with both teams battling back in forth. We were able to make some outside shots which in hand settled are girls down and gave them some confidence. The ability to shoot from the permiter has hurt us all year, but our girls know that shooting is very important when it comes to winning. We were much balanced on offense throughout the night. We had several girls who stepped up and played some good minutes for us. Overall it was an important win and a nice win for our girls going into the final two games of the season. Very proud of our girls! Mackenzie Weaver scored a season high 8pts and Emily Delucia, Maggie Cole and Kenyatta Allen each had 6pts. 

 

 

Whitney Point, Lansing basketball teams battling for top spot in IAC Large North

ITHACA — With just three games left in the regular season, Whitney Point and Lansing are in a dogfight atop the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large North Division, with red-hot Dryden not far behind.
The results of Friday night’s intra-division matchups might have a say in who ultimately advances to the Large School final, slated for 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at Tompkins Cortland Community College. The Eagles (12-2, 11-2 IAC, 3-1 division) are a half-game ahead of the Bobcats (11-2, 10-2, 3-1) in the overall standings, and face a stiff test tonight against visiting Dryden.
The Purple Lions (10-4, 10-3, 2-2) are coming off a 45-point drubbing of Southern Cayuga and have won four straight and nine of their last 10, including a 67-65 defeat of previously unbeaten Moravia on Jan. 15.
Lansing heads around the lake to take on traditional rival Trumansburg (0-15, 0-4 division), which is coming off a 47-26 loss on Wednesday to Newark Valley in the rescheduled consolation game of the Fred Caliel Tournament. The Cardinals were led by Ryan Coleman’s 17 points, while Zachary Kenney had seven for the Blue Raiders, who’ve been held to 40 points or fewer eight times this season.
Elsewhere in the IAC North, it’s Groton (4-9, 2-4 Small North) at Moravia (11-2, 6-0), which has clinched the Small North Division, and Southern Cayuga (6-7, 2-3) at Union Springs (4-10, 1-5).
In the South, a key Large School clash will pit Notre Dame (13-1, 9-0 IAC, 3-0 Large South) against host Watkins Glen (11-2, 8-1, 3-1). Other contests feature Waverly (10-4) at Newark Valley (2-11), Edison (4-10) at Newfield (7-7, 6-2 Small South), Tioga (0-13) at Odessa-Montour (11-3, 8-0 Small South) and Spencer-Van Etten (7-6) at Candor (3-10).
